Moser: Limited Collection of the Abyss Family
Once again Moser pushes the boundaries and presents an extension of the extraordinary Abyss Family collection.
This winter Moser, Karlovy Vary based crystal glass hand-made production on the world leader level, has introduced an extension of the Abyss Family collection. Designed by Moser artistic director and designer, Jan Plecháč, this limited collection was presented at the prestigious trade fair Maison&Objet in Paris which was very well-received.
The Abyss Family collection consists of three items, two vases and a bowl. It is an extremely complex and challenging one to execute. It requires exceptional craftsmanship and expertise of a glassmaker as well as extraordinary lung capacity and arm strength as the glass on the blowpipe weighs 23kg. The pieces are exclusively shaped by Vlastimil Habart, a student and successor of a master glassmaker, Zdeněk Drobný, a recipient of the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters.
“For me, Abyss represents the pushing of human and physical boundaries in crystal-making. It was an immense challenge for both the glassmakers and cutters, and I am proud of them for achieving it,” - Jan Plecháč.
Abyss vase is inspired by the art of freediving. The contrast between the ocean's deep bottom and the lightness of the diving itself. This feeling is reflected in the brutal edges and smooth bottom of the pieces. The vases are in fact massive, weighing 8kg and are representing masterful craftsmanship together daring to push the limits.
The Abyss Family collection features aquamarine color, Moser’s signature, which has never been used in such massive pieces before which makes the colour appear darker than other crystal products. The new limited collection is also available in matte finish together with the original glossy version.
The Abyss collection is limited so each customer can select a limited edition number from 1 to 99 (matte version) or 1 to 33 (glossy version), if available. They are also invited to visit the glassworks in person to witness the magic of creation first-hand.
